Meet Ashley

A Day In The Life Of A Logistics Manager

If extensive planning and immaculate organisation are your bread and butter, a career in logistics could be right your up alley. That’s what drove Ashley, a logistics manager with one of the world’s leading couriers, into a career in the industry.

Ashley’s logistics career began with a stint of work experience at a logistics company after high school, before returning to study to complete a diploma in Logistics Management. Ashley decided to complete a diploma instead of the typical university course due to time and money – a diploma proved to be more cost and time effective, and allowed Ashley to combine work with study to continue gaining that all-important work experience. Today, Ashley works for one of the world’s leading courier companies and this is how a typical day as a logistics manager looks!

First thing:

Like many other occupations, I spend a fair portion of the beginning of my day sorting through and responding to any emails. These could include anything from new business enquiries to resolving customer complaints or grievances. After clearing out my inbox and finishing my second coffee of the day, I check in with my staff to discuss delivery schedules and ensure that any client deliveries are running smoothly. My morning rounds out with some sales call outs to prospective clients, and completing financial reports such as a monthly cost analysis.

During the day:

As the day rolls on, I often find myself stuck in meetings with management and other company departments. We discuss a wide range of strategies, and as logistics manager I am required to present our progress and discuss any potential issues with other factions of the business. After the run of meetings is over, I clear my mind with a long lunch break to prepare myself for the afternoon ahead.

End of day:

My afternoons tend to revolve around client-facing work – I will consult with clients to streamline their operations and improve our service, while liaising with customers who are dissatisfied with their delivery experience. Before I depart the office, I always meet with our scheduler to ensure the rest of the day’s deliveries are on track and perform a final check of my emails to make sure I haven’t missed any important information.
