How to set your goals in 2020

How to Achieve Your Goals in 2020

As 2019 draws to a close, now is the time for us to reflect on how far we have come in achieving our New Year resolutions and goals. Many of us won’t have reached the goals we planned to achieve in 2019; in fact, research by The University of Scranton found that a staggering 92 per cent of us don’t achieve the New Year goals we set at the beginning of each year.

While it is easy to feel disheartened when you haven’t achieved what you set out to on January 1, it is important to keep your perspective and look ahead to what you can do in the New Year to achieve your 2020 goals.

So, what can you do to ensure that you kick off a new decade on the right note and achieve your New Year goals in 2020?

  1. Set clear goals

When your goal setting is too vague, it becomes infinitely harder to meet them. However, when you set specific goals that challenge you, your motivation to achieve them is boosted. This is because you have a clearer idea of what you are setting out to do, and hence a better judgement of exactly what you have to do to achieve them.

  1. Commitment is crucial

To achieve your goal, it is important to equip yourself with that winning ‘whatever it takes’ attitude. Whether your New Year goal is to gain a promotion at work, finally write that book or return to study with National Training, it all comes down to how badly you want to achieve that elusive goal. This is where your passion and desire can make it happen.

  1. Seek out feedback

It is hard to ascertain your goal progress if you are not regularly gaining insight into how you are tracking towards that end point. Take the initiative to gain feedback from a trusted colleague, mentor, friend or manager who can objectively highlight where you are falling behind and help you get back on track.

If returning to study is your 2020 goal, why not take a chance on National Training’s current special? You can add a second diploma to your current course for an extra $500, boosting your progress towards your career goals while saving you precious time and money. We reckon that’s a New Year goal worth working towards!
